Fun day on the #benchmark today fishing in Kona. 1 for 2 on shortbill Spear fish and had a short but fat 571 get tail wrapped and despite our best efforts couldn’t be revived. Beyond stoked for my best bud from back where I grew up to be able to get down here and crank on a few good ones. Congrats Andy and get on ya for handling up to 70lbs of drag to lift this girl !! This particular fish was one of the better bites I’ve seen on the short corner. Explosive and aggressive to say the least. Bart’s Breakfast was the lure that she inhaled. Beautiful day on the water, Fishing is heating up. #kona #hawaii #benchmark @pelagicgear #pelagichawaii#pelagucworldwide #bluemarlin #doa #bartlures @elitetacklegroup @bigtunateasers #dredges

Kona Fishing April 10th
One fish away from a “Kona slam”, 0-2 on Blue Marlin 1-1 on stripe marlin 2-3 on shortbill spearfish. Pulled hooks on a monster Blue in the AM and picked away at other billed creatures through the day, just couldn’t close the deal with the blues. Oh well still not a bad day on the rip. Looking better out there, bck on it again tmrw. #benchmark #kona#hawaii
April 7th
This last Full moon in Kona produced some big fish. In the three days of March 29, 30, 31st there were at least 11 caught over 450 with 2 of them a lil over 700lbs. This is a good sign of things to come for this Summer and upcoming full moons. We also have a new moon approaching on April 15th and those days after that could produce big bites. Get down here !
April Fishing Report Kona Hawaii
March has been a terrific month for XL marlin, 4 Blue Marlin releases already in the 319 KG range and almost everyone is getting shots at 228 kg sized Blues. Things seem to be on schedule for a great Spring and Summer.
The Ahi have started showing up slowly and boats putting in the time and targeting them are being rewarded. The spring Wahoo has showed up, which should get better as we head to summer. The spearfish have yet to make a strong showing but this will change. May and June will bring better fishing with multiple bites a day from Blue Marlin, catching large Yellowfin Tuna on the troll will also increase.
