Day one of the Big Island Marlin Tournament. Marlin fishing was slow but we lucked into this one late in the day. Since there has been no fish weighed she could have been worth some big $ but We looked at her for awhile boat side and damn she looked very close to the 400, we just felt she was just a tad short and despite having the girth of a much larger fish we still all agreed she would have been just a hair under the minimum weight so we made the tough but I believe right decision to put a tag in her and release & get on the points board with one tag for day 1. We are Hoping for her big sister tmrw. The Leading boat has 2 tags & there are 2 more days to go so it’s still open. Good luck everyone. Not a lot in terms of Marlin action for us yesterday but got this Ahi as bycatch while on the hunt. It was Good to get back out on the rip after a bunch of days off. 1 for 2 on Blue Marlin and 1 for 2 on those Tuna fishes 🍣yesterday. We have today off but back at um after that. The currents look really good, hopefully this damn storm doesn’t mess everything up. If your wondering why these tuna have been so hard to catch on lures the last few weeks. This is what they are eating. It’s crazy how many times you see them actively jumping and feeding right around the spread but they are just switched on to micro stuff.

3 for 4 on Blue Marlin yesterday. We finished up our trip with Bob and Cindy Dagenais going 5 for 10 on their 3 day trip with us. 1 for 2 yesterday catching a 300 lb blue and jumping off one that looked probably like a 700 lb fish. The bigger one came unhooked after only a couple big jumps so was probably never really hooked. Always hurts a bit more when everyone onboard gets a good look at her. Oh Well the law of averages should work in our favor sooner or later on the big girls 😂. Despite jumping off the big one we are super happy for Cindy catching her first Blue Marlin and it was a good one!
